Branded a “Moxie Maven” by the White House for her women’s empowerment work, since winning the Miss Junior America competition Alexia Vernon has been supporting companies, campuses, and community organizations to build a new generation of heart-centered, high-impact communicators and ethical leaders. Alexia is the creator of Step Into Your Moxie, a platform that develops women’s skills in public speaking, negotiating, resolving conflict, coaching, and facilitating “difficult” conversations. Alexia has shared her unique approach to developing women’s voices with such organizations as the Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership, Step Up Women’s Network, Association of Women Entrepreneurs (AOfWe), and as the host of Las Vegas’ TEDxWomen event.

Alexia has shared her advice at the intersections of women’s issues, Gen Y and millennial workplace issues, career and business strategy, and communication and leadership development with myriad national and regional TV, print, and online media including CNN, NBC, Wall Street Journal, FOX Business News, Women’s Health Magazine, Diversity Executive Magazine, T+D Magazine, CBS MoneyWatch, Mint.com, TheGlassHammer.com, CareerBuilder.com, Monster.com, ForbesWoman.com, and Forbes.com. She is the author of 90 Days 90 Ways: Onboard Young Professionals to Peak Performance and Awaken Your CAREERpreneour: A Holistic Road Map to Climb from Your Calling to Your Career. Alexia tells her powerful story of shifting the narrative around sexual abuse in We Don’t Need Another Wave and was profiled for her college social justice work in Grassroots: A Field Guide for Feminist Activism. Prior to launching her own business, Alexia produced the New York City Student Shakespeare Festival, taught public speaking for The City University of New York (CUNY) and women’s studies for New Jersey City University, and as a college student founded and served as Executive Director of Girls’ Activity and Leadership (GAL) Institute.

Alexia holds a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), where she graduated summa cum laude, and a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in gender studies, leadership development, and theatre for social change from New York University (NYU), where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Alexia is certified by the International Coach Federation (ICF), served as president of the Nevada Professional Coaches Association, is the current president of the Greater Las Vegas American Society for Training and Development, and is a member of the Young Entrepreneurs Council (YEC), an invite only nonprofit organization comprised of the world’s most successful young entrepreneurs.
